Recently, I’ve shown you how to add or remove email accounts in the Mail app in Windows 10. For most Windows users, the Mail app works pretty good and has all the necessary features you’d expect from a good Windows email client. Not to mention, the Mail app is pretty lightweight, snappy, and responsive.
When you add multiple accounts to the Mail app on Windows 10, by default, it will use generic account names like Gmail 1, Gmail 2, Outlook 1, Outlook 2, etc., rather than asking you to manually choose a name for each email account you add. Generally, the Mail app shows the email account name in bold letters on the left pane. Along with the email account name, the Mail app also displays the email ID in small letters right under the name. This makes it easy to identify the email account even if the Mail app is using generic email account names.
If you want to, you can easily change the email account name in Mail app with just a few clicks. By changing the email account name, you can configure the Mail app to use different names for different email accounts.
Change Email Account Name in the Mail App
- Open the start menu.
- Search for the “Mail” app.
- Click on the Mail app to open it.
- On the bottom left corner, click on the “Settings” (gear) icon.
- In the settings flyout, click on the “Manage Accounts” option.
- Click on the email account you want to change the email account name.
- Enter the new email account name in the name field under “Account name“.
- Click on the “Save” button.
Done. It is that simple. You’ve changed the email account name in the Mail app. From now on you should see the new email account name both on the left sidebar and in the Manage Account menu.
