This guide teaches you some simple steps to remove an account in Windows 11.

Use the computer long enough and you will eventually accumulate multiple user accounts. Maybe, you might have created one for your family or friends, created a secondary user account for yourself, etc. For example, I have a secondary standard user account for testing purposes.

While having multiple user accounts is useful, once you done and no longer need a user account in Windows 11, it is better to remove it. That way, it eliminates the security risk such as unauthorized usage, and helps you organize and simplify your Windows 11 experience.

So, without further ado, let’s dive in and learn how to remove an account in Windows 11!

Important note: Before deleting a user account, go to the “C:\Users\Username” (replace username with the actual user name) and back up all the files and folders in it to another drive/partition.

Steps to remove account in Windows 11

Use these steps to remove a user account in Windows 11.

  1. Log into Windows 11.
  2. Launch the Settings app.
  3. Go to the “Accounts” tab on the sidebar.
  4. Click/tap on the “Other users” option.
  5. Click/tap on the account you want to remove.
  6. Press the “Remove” button.
  7. Press the “Delete account and data” button.
  8. User account is removed in Windows 11.

Let’s see these steps in detail:

Firstly, log into your Windows 11 computer. Make sure you don’t log into the account you want to delete. Next, click the start icon on the taskbar and start typing “Settings.” Click/tap the relevant result to launch the Windows 11 Settings app. You can also right-click the Start icon on the taskbar and choose “Settings.”

Go to the “Accounts” tab on the Settings app sidebar and click/tap on the “Other users” option under the “Account settings” section on the right pane.

Finally, click/tap on the account you want to remove and press the “Remove” button. You will see a confirmation prompt, click the “Delete account and data” button.

With that, the account is deleted in Windows 11.

Following the same steps, you can also remove administrator account in Windows 11.

Remove account from Command Prompt

Other than the Settings app, you can also use the command line tool Command Prompt to remove a user account in Windows 11.

  1. Right-click the Start icon on the taskbar.
  2. Choose the “Windows Terminal (Admin)” option.
  3. Click/tap the dropdown icon on the title bar.
  4. Choose the “Command Prompt” option.
  5. Navigate to the Command Prompt tab.
  6. Type “net user USERNAME /delete” while replacing USERNAME with the user name of the account you want to delete.
  7. Press the Enter button.
  8. The Windows user account is removed.
