How to Turn On or Off Image Enhancement in Edge

Microsoft added a new feature called Enhance Images to the Edge browser that when enabled improves images’ color, light, sharpness, and contrast so that they are more appealing. This guide shows you how to enable or disable the Enhance Images feature in the Edge browser.

Once you enable Enhance Images in Microsoft Edge, the browser will send all the images you see in the browser to Microsoft servers so that it can process and improve them. If you are wondering, no user-identifiable data is included when sending the images for processing.

Though the feature to improve images is useful, some of you might not like it on privacy grounds. In that case, you can disable the Enhance Images in Edge. Once disabled, Edge will no longer process the images to improve or send them to Microsoft servers.

Enable Enhance Images in the Edge Browser

The Enhance Images in Microsoft Edge is enabled by default. Here’s how to check it and if it is disabled for whatever reason, follow the steps to enable it.

Step 1: Open the Microsoft Edge browser.

Firstly, click the Microsoft Edge icon on the taskbar to open the browser window. Alternatively, you can also “Microsoft Edge” via the Start menu search or double-click on the desktop icon.

Step 2: Go to the “Settings > Privacy, Search, and Services” page.

Once the Edge browser has been opened, click the three-dotted menu icon on the top-right corner and select “Settings” from it. After that, navigate to the “Privacy, Search, and Services” tab on the sidebar. You can also get to this page by typing “edge://settings/privacy” in the Edge browser’s address bar.

Step 3: Turn on the “Enhance Images in Microsoft Edge” option.

On the Privacy settings page, scroll down to the “Services” section. Here, turn on the “Enhance Images in Microsoft Edge” option.

After enabling the option, settings are automatically saved. From now on, the Edge browser will automatically improve the images as you browse. Do keep in mind that this feature can take some time to start working. So, give it some time after enabling it.

Disable Enhance Images in the Edge Browser

If you don’t automatic image enhancement in Edge, follow the steps below to turn off Enhance Images feature in Edge. This is particularly useful if you think Edge is modifying too much or have privacy concerns.

  1. Open the Edge browser.
  2. Click the three-dotted menu icon in the top-right corner.
  3. Select the “Settings” option from the menu.
  4. Navigate to the “Privacy, search, and services” tab on the sidebar.
  5. Scroll down to the “Services” section.
  6. Turn off the “Enhance Images in Microsoft Edge” option.
  7. Re-launch the browser.
  8. With that, you’ve disabled automatic image enhancement in Edge.
