Learn the simplest way to check if your laptop has a precision touchpad in both Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Unlike older, traditional touchpads, a Precision Touchpad is far superior in functionality and usability. It’s deeply integrated with Windows, enabling smooth and reliable multi-finger gestures. While the Windows OS supports a precision touchpad, not all laptops have precision touchpad hardware. This is especially true for older (pre-20202) and budget laptops. If you are unsure whether your laptop has a precision touchpad, both Windows 10 and Windows 11 provide a simple way to check it.
In this quick and easy guide, I will show you how to check for precision touchpad support in Windows 11 and Windows 10. Let’s get started.
Check if Your Laptop Has a Precision Touchpad in Windows 10
- Open the Settings app by pressing “Windows key + I”.
- Click “Devices“.
- Go to the “Touchpad” tab on the sidebar.
- If your laptop supports a precision touchpad, you will see “Your PC has a precision touchpad” at the top of the right page.
- Close the Settings app.
Detailed Steps (With Screenshots)
You can find out whether your laptop supports a precision touchpad or not using the Settings app. So, the first thing you should do is open it by pressing the “Windows key + I” shortcut or by right-clicking the “Windows” icon on the taskbar and selecting the “Settings” option.
Once it opens, click the “Devices” option. On the sidebar, click the “Touchpad” option. This is the page where you can customize various touchpad settings, such as the touchpad sensitivity, three-finger tap to middle click, and other settings.
If your laptop has a precision touchpad, you will see the “Your PC has a precision touchpad” message at the top of the right page. If you don’t see this message, it means that your laptop doesn’t support it.

Check if Your Laptop Has a Precision Touchpad in Windows 11
- Right-click the “Windows” icon on the taskbar.
- Select the “Settings” option.
- Go to the “Bluetooth & devices” tab on the sidebar.
- Click the “Touchpad” option on the right panel.
- If your Windows 11 laptop supports a precision touchpad, you will see “” at the top of the right page.
- You can close the “Settings” app.
