If you don’t like the extra step to log into your user account, you can remove the user account password in Windows. Here are the steps.

Windows encourages users to password protect user accounts. In fact, when you first create a user account in Windows, you have to go through the password creation wizard. After that, you are even prompted to answer security questions to help you recover the user account if you forgot the password.

Generally, password protection is a really good thing. This is especially true for on-the-go laptop users or users who share the computer with others. That being said, if you are the only user of the system and confident that no one can access it, having a password-protected user account is nothing but an additional unnecessary step to log into Windows. Removing the user account password is also useful for media PCs which are generally connected to TVs and accessed by all the members in the household.

No matter the reason, if you don’t want to use user account password protection, you can remove it completely. Follow the below steps to remove the user account password in Windows.

Note: If you are using Microsoft account to log into Windows 10, follow the first method. If you are using a local account then follow the second method.

Remove User Account Password for Microsoft Account

If you are using an online account i.e, a Microsoft account to sign in to your Windows 10 machine, you cannot remove the user account password. This is because you are using your Microsoft account password to log in.

However, you can get the next best thing. That is, you can bypass the Windows login screen altogether. Once you configure the password bypass settings, Windows will automatically log you in.

The good thing is, you can also use this method with local user accounts. As you can see, this method gives you the best of both worlds. i.e, you don’t have to remove the password but don’t have to enter it either.

Remove Local User Account Password

If you are using a local user account and want to completely remove the user account password rather than bypassing it, you can easily do it in a couple of steps.

1. First, open the Settings app by searching for it in the Start menu. Once opened, go to the “Accounts → Sign-in Options” page.

2. You will see a bunch of authentication methods on the right page. Here, click on the “Password” option and then click on the “Change” button.

3. You will be prompted to enter the current password before you can change or remove it. So, enter the current password and click on the “Next” button.

4. After successful authentication, you will be prompted for a new password. Leave all the blanks empty and click on the “Next” button.

Next, click on the “Finish” button. Since we did not set any password, you’ve successfully removed the password.

That is it. It is that simple to either bypass the Windows password or remove it entirely.
