Learn the simplest way to bypass the login screen and automatically sign in to Windows 10 without entering the password.
By default, Windows 10 requires you to enter your user account password to log in. This ensures that only you or someone authorized by you can access the system. However, what if you don’t like to enter the password or PIN every time? For example, maybe you are the only one using your system, or it is a public PC. The good thing is that in such situations, you can configure Windows 10 to sign in automatically. There are two ways to configure Windows 10 auto login. You can either use the built-in netplwiz tool or modify the registry. Both methods work the same.
In this quick and easy guide, I will show how to automatically sign in to Windows 10 by bypassing the login screen at startup. Let’s get started.
Automatically Sign In to Windows 10 Using Netplwiz
Netplwiz is a built-in advanced user account management tool. Using it, you can easily configure any user to sign in automatically. Here’s how.
- Open the Run dialog by pressing “Windows key + R”.
- Type “netplwiz” and press “Enter“.
- Select the user account in the “Users” tab.
- Uncheck the “Users must enter a username and password to use this computer” checkbox.
- Click “Apply“.
- Type the password twice and click “OK“.
- That’s it. From now on, you will be logged in automatically.
That is it. With that, you’ve configured the automatic login process in Windows 10.
Detailed Steps (With Screenshots)
First, we must open the netplwiz tool. To do that, open the Run dialog box by pressing the “Windows key + R” shortcut, type “netplwiz“, and click “OK“. Alternatively, you can also search for “netplwiz” in the Start menu and open it from there.

Once it opens, go to the “Users” tab, select your user account under “Users for this computer”, and uncheck the “Users must enter a username and password to use this computer” checkbox. Click the “Apply” button.
Note: If you don’t see the “Users must enter a username and password to use this computer” checkbox in netplwiz. Follow this guide to fix the issue: fix the missing “Users must enter a username and password to use this computer” option.

You will be prompted to enter the user account password. Type the password twice and click the “OK” button.

That is it. From now on, Windows 10 will automatically sign you in as soon as you turn on your computer.
Automatically Sign In to Windows 10 Using Registry Editor
Note: Before making changes to the registry, please back it up. It helps you restore your system to a known good state.
- Open the Start menu by pressing the “Windows key”.
- Search for and open “Registry Editor“.
- Go to the following folder in the Registry Editor.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon - Right-click the “Winlogon” folder.
- Select “New” > “String Value“.
- Name the value as “DefaultUserName“.
- Double-click the “DefaultUserName” value.
- Enter your Windows username and click “OK“.
- Right-click the “Winlogon” folder.
- Select “New” > “String Value“.
- Name the value as “DefaultPassword“.
- Double-click the “DefaultPassword” value.
- Type your user account password and click “OK“.
- Right-click the “Winlogon” folder.
- Select “New” > “String Value“.
- Name the value as “AutoAdminLogon“.
- Double-click the “AutoAdminLogon” value.
- Enter “1” and click “OK“.
- Close the registry editor.
- That’s it. From now on, you will be logged in automatically.
Detailed Steps (With Screenshots)
Since we need to modify the registry, we must open it first. To do that, search for “regedit” in the Start menu and click “Open“.

Once it opens, go to the following folder. You can also paste the path below in the registry editor’s address bar and press “Enter”.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Right-click the “Winlogon” folder on the left sidebar and select “New” and then “String Value“. Name the new value as “DefaultUserName.” After that, double-click the newly created value, type your username, and click “OK“.

Again, right-click the “Winlogon” folder, select “New” and then the “String Value” option. Name the new value as “DefaultPassword“.

Double-click the “DefaultPassword” value, enter your user account password in the “Value Data” field, and click the “OK” button to save changes.

Once again, right-click on the “Winlogon” folder and select the “New” > “String Value” option. Name the value as “AutoAdminLogon“. Double-click the “AutoAdminLogon” value, type “1” in the Value Data field, and click “OK“.

That is it. You have completed the registry changes. Close the registry editor by clicking the “X” button on the title bar. Finally, restart your computer. From now on, Windows 10 will no longer ask for a password and will automatically sign you in when you start your system.
