You can install the Windows YouTube app using Chrome or Edge browsers. I will show both methods. Follow the one depending on the browser you are using.
Install YouTube App on Windows using Chrome
Use the below steps to install and use the YouTube app using the Chrome browser:
Firstly, open the Chrome web browser. You can click the taskbar or desktop icon or search for Chrome in the Start menu.
After opening the browser, go to the YouTube website by typing “https://youtube.com” (without quotes) in the address bar.
After the website loads, click the “Install web app” icon on the address bar. The icon looks like a computer icon with a down arrow overlay. Look at the below image for reference.
Click/tap the “Install” button in the “Install app?” dialog prompt.
The official YouTube app is instantly installed on your Windows PC. Once installed, the app will automatically open.
After installing YouTube app on Windows, you can open it by searching for “YouTube” in the Start menu.
Install YouTube App on Windows using Microsoft Edge
Edge users should use the below steps to get the YouTube desktop app:
Open the Edge browser by clicking on the taskbar icon or searching for “Microsoft Edge” in the Start menu. After opening the browser, “https://youtube.com” (without quotes) in the address bar and press Enter on your keyboard to open the YouTube website.
Once the YouTube website loads, click the “Install YouTube” icon on the address bar. The icon looks like a partial cube icon. Refer to the below image.
Click the “Install” button in the Install YouTube app prompt.
The YouTube app is installed immediately on your Windows PC. The installed YouTube app will open automatically.
You can search and open the YouTube app from the Start menu.
Pin YouTube to Taskbar
Once the YouTube app is installed, you can pin it to the taskbar like any other application. Follow these steps to pin YouTube to the taskbar.
- Click/tap the start icon on the taskbar.
- Search for “YouTube” in the Start menu.
- Right-click on the YouTube app in the Start menu.
- Select the “Pin to taskbar” option.
- The YouTube app is pinned to the taskbar.
Uninstall the YouTube app on Windows PC
Use these steps to uninstall the YouTube app from your Windows computer.
- Press Win + I to open the Settings app.
- Navigate to the “Apps” tab on the sidebar.
- Click/tap on the “Installed Apps” option.
- Scroll down and find the YouTube app.
- Click the three-dotted menu icon next to the YouTube app.
- Select the “Uninstall” option.
- Press the “Uninstall” button.
- The YouTube app is uninstalled from Windows.
