How to Remove Copilot Icon From Taskbar on Windows 11

Windows 11 copilot featured

With the recent update (v23H2), Microsoft added Copilot, a generative AI assistant to Windows 11. You can think of it as a much more useful version of Cortana. To access it, you can either click on the Copilot icon on the taskbar or press the Windows key + C shortcut. If you’d like to keep your taskbar clean, you have the option to remove the Copilot icon. In this guide, we’ll show you how to both add and remove the Copilot icon from the taskbar on Windows 11. Let’s get started.

Update: In a recent update, Microsoft moved the Copilot icon to the rightmost side of the taskbar. However, the below steps still work to hide or unhide Copilot icon on Windows 11.

Remove Copilot from the Taskbar

To remove the Copilot icon, open the Settings app by pressing Windows key + I shortcut. Next, click Personalization on the sidebar and then click on the Taskbar option on the right panel.

In the Taskbar settings page, turn off the Copilot toggle under the Taskbar Items section.

Note: If you don’t see options under the Taskbar Items section, click on it to expand the section.

Even after removing the icon, you can access Copilot by pressing the Windows key + C shortcut.

Add Copilot to the Taskbar

If you’d like quick and easy access to Copilot, you can add its icon to the taskbar. Here’s how:

Right-click on the taskbar and select Taskbar Settings. This will open the taskbar options page in the Settings app.

Here, turn on the Copilot toggle under the Taskbar Items section. This action will add the Copilot icon to the taskbar. If you can’t see the options under Taskbar Items, click on it to expand the section.

And there you have it! It’s that simple to add or remove Copilot from the taskbar on Windows 11. For those who don’t want Copilot, read our excellent guide on how to disable Copilot on Windows 11.
