Windows 11 has a special button called Show Desktop that appears in the rightmost corner of the taskbar. Clicking on this button instantly minimizes all open windows and shows your desktop. This is a handy feature that allows you to access your desktop with a single click. With recent changes, however, the Show Desktop button is off by default. That means it won’t appear on the taskbar. Instead, you will see the Copilot icon. Thankfully, you can add Show Desktop to the taskbar via the settings app. In this tutorial, we’ll show how to bring back the Show Desktop button on the Windows taskbar. Let’s get started.
Add Show Desktop to Taskbar on Windows 11
You can bring back the Show Desktop button using taskbar settings. Follow the below steps.
1. First, open the Settings window by pressing the Windows key + I shortcut.
2. Navigate to the Personalize tab on the sidebar of the Settings window.
3. In the Personalize page, click on the Taskbar option.
4. Click the Taskbar Behaviors option to expand the section.
5. Check the Select the far corner of the taskbar to show the desktop checkbox.
That is it. The Show Desktop is added to the taskbar. To use it, simply move your mouse pointer to the rightmost corner of the taskbar and click. This will instantly minimize all open windows and show the desktop.
(Optional) If the new Copilot icon is distracting you, you can hide the Copilot icon from the taskbar settings page or completely disable it. If you are not using this feature, removing it reduces taskbar clutter.
And there you have it! If you regularly use the Show Desktop button to access your desktop, following the steps in this tutorial lets you add the button back to the taskbar. If you have any questions, comment below and we’ll answer.
