How to Turn Off Caps Lock Notification on HP Laptops

On HP laptops, the HP System Event Utility program comes pre-installed and it is responsible for displaying the Caps Lock OSD (On-Screen Display) notification every time you toggle Caps Lock by pressing the Caps Lock key on your keyboard. While the OSD notification appears for other special keys too, Caps Lock is particularly distracting as I use it often. If like me, you too find it distracting, you can turn off the Caps Lock notification on any HP laptop. Let me show you how.

What is HP System Event Utility?

HP System Event Utility comes pre-installed on all HP laptops and it is responsible for managing special function keys such as volume controls, brightness controls, wireless enabling keys, etc. Every time you press a special key, the HP System Event Utility program toggles the special function and shows the current status of that special key as an OSD notification.

For example, when you press the Caps Lock key, HP System Event Utility toggles the Caps Lock functionality and displays the current status, i.e., on or off, as an OSD notification.

To put it simply, HP System Event Utility makes using mundane functions such as increasing or decreasing screen brightness, toggling Caps Lock, enabling or disabling WiFi, Bluetooth, & touchpad, managing keyboard backlight, etc., easy.

Why Uninstall HP System Event Utility?

To stop your HP laptop from showing the Caps Lock on-screen indicator, you have to uninstall the HP System Event Utility program.

So, why such a drastic step? Because the HP System Event Utility does not have an option to disable OSD functionality.

So, if you are someone who is bothered by the constant OSD notifications every time you intentionally or unintentionally press a special key, you must uninstall this program.

However, there are a few downsides you should keep in mind before proceeding, they are as follows:
