How To Remove Background With Paint App in Windows 11

In a recent update to the Paint app on Windows 11, Microsoft added a new feature called Remove Background. Background removal feature helps you remove the background from any photo or image using the Paint app with just a single click. While removing the background, the Paint app will automatically detect the subject of the image and cut it out smoothly.

Note: Before proceeding, update the Paint app via Store to make sure the app is up-to-date. To update the app, open the Microsoft Store, click on Library, and then click on the “Get Updates” button.

Remove background with the Paint app

To remove the background from a photo with the Paint app, follow the below-provided steps:

Step 1: Open the Paint app by searching for it in the Start menu. You can also use the ‘mspaint’ run command.

Step 2: Click on the File > Open option from the top bar.

Step 3: Select the photo from which you want to remove the background and click Open.

Step 4: Click on the Remove Background button on the top bar.

Step 5: As soon as you click on the option, Paint will automatically detect the subject of the photo and remove the background leaving only the subject.

Step 6: Once the background is removed, click on the File option and select Save as > PNG.

Note: Only PNG format supports saving images without a background. i.e., a transparent background.

Step 7: Select a destination folder, name, and hit the Save button.

With that, the photo without background is removed. If you want to remove background from a specific portion of the photo then select that portion using the rectangle tool and then click on the Remove Background button.
