In a recent update to the Paint app on Windows 11, Microsoft added a new feature called Remove Background. Background removal feature helps you remove the background from any photo or image using the Paint app with just a single click. While removing the background, the Paint app will automatically detect the subject of the image and cut it out smoothly.
This quick and easy tutorial shows you how to remove background using the Paint app on Windows 11. Let’s get started.
Note: Before proceeding, update the Paint app via Store to make sure the app is up-to-date. To update the app, open the Microsoft Store, click on Library, and then click on the “Get Updates” button.
Remove background with the Paint app
To remove the background from a photo with the Paint app, follow the below-provided steps:
Step 1: Open the Paint app by searching for it in the Start menu. You can also use the ‘mspaint’ run command.
Step 2: Click on the File > Open option from the top bar.
Step 3: Select the photo from which you want to remove the background and click Open.
Step 4: Click on the Remove Background button on the top bar.
Step 5: As soon as you click on the option, Paint will automatically detect the subject of the photo and remove the background leaving only the subject.
Step 6: Once the background is removed, click on the File option and select Save as > PNG.
Note: Only PNG format supports saving images without a background. i.e., a transparent background.
Step 7: Select a destination folder, name, and hit the Save button.
With that, the photo without background is removed. If you want to remove background from a specific portion of the photo then select that portion using the rectangle tool and then click on the Remove Background button.
That is all. I hope this small tutorial helped you use the new feature in Paint to remove background from a photo or image.
