How to Import and Export Snagit Presets in Windows (Backup Presets)

After painfully configuring all the presets, you should back them up. Here are the steps to import and export Snagit presets in Windows.

In my day to day work, I take a ton of screenshots ranging from showing a procedure in Windows to village coordinates in Minecraft. Personally, my goto software for screenshots is Snagit. Mainly because you can quickly create multiple presets and the default Snagit Editor is pretty nice and easy to use.

Considering how many types of screenshots I take, I have several different presets with a variety of custom settings. For example, I created a simple preset so that when I take a screenshot of Minecraft it is automatically saved in the Minecraft specific folder rather than the generic work screenshots folder. As you can guess, this hugely helpful in maintaining your different workflows.

Put simply, presets make life easier. After painfully configuring all the presets in Snagit, it is essential that you create a Snagit preset backup. This backup removes the need to manually configure the presets and helps you restore them when you reinstall the software or if something goes wrong.

So, without further ado, follow the below steps to export Snagit presets in Windows.

Note: The steps shown below will work in Windows 7 and 8 too.

Backup or Export Snagit Presets

Thankfully, Snagit makes it quite easy to backup all presets. All you have to do is click on an option and you are done.

1 . First, if it is not already opened, open Snagit application by searching for it in the start menu.

2. After opening it, you will see all your presets by click on the “Presets” option. To export Snagit presets, select the “File → Export all presets” option.

That is it. You are done exporting Snagit presets. The saved export file will be in .snagpresets format. However, this file is just an XML file with a custom file format extension. So, if you really want to and have some XML knowledge, you can easily open the file in any text editor and make necessary modifications.

Restore or Import Snagit Presets

To import the presets, just double-click on the preset file. Alternatively, open the Sangit application, select the “File → Import presets” option, select the preset file, and click “Open.” This action will import the preset and you can start using them like normal.
