Shut down from the Start menu

3. Choose the “Shut down” option.

Use the “Alt + F4” keyboard shortcut

This is one of the most known and easy-to-use ways to shut down Windows 11. All you have to do is press the keyboard shortcut, choose the “Shut down” option, and you are good to go. Here is how to do it.

First, close all the applications and make sure you are on the Windows 11 desktop.

Next, press the “Alt + F4” shortcut on your keyboard.

This action will open the “Shut down Windows” window. Choose “Shut down” from the dropdown menu and click the “Ok” button.

As soon as you do that, Windows 11 will shut down immediately.

Shut down from the lock screen

The lock screen has options to sign out, restart, and shut down Windows 11. This method is useful when the system is locked, and you don’t want to unlock it just to shut it down. Here is how to use them.

First, make sure you are on the lock screen. You can get to it by pressing the “Windows key + L” shortcut. Next, click on the lock screen wallpaper to see the log-in field.

First, we need to open the command-line tool in Windows 11. To do that, right-click on the Start menu and choose the “Windows Terminal” option.

Next, execute the below command. The command works the same both in PowerShell and Command Prompt.

shutdown /s

As soon as you execute the command, you will see a prompt saying, “You’re about to be signed out.” Windows 11 should shut down a few seconds after the notification prompt.

Shut down from Ctrl + Alt + Del screen

If the system is frozen or an app is misbehaving, you can shut down Windows 11 from the Ctrl + Alt + Del screen. Let me show you how.

1. Press “Ctrl + Alt + Delete” shortcut on your keyboard.
2. Click the “Power” icon in the bottom right corner.
