How To Install Windows Subsystem for Android in Windows 11

You can run Android apps in Windows 11 using Windows Sybsystem for Android. Here’s how to install Windows Subsystem for Android.

After adding Linux support to Windows, Microsoft pulled through and added support for running Android apps in Windows 11.

Microsoft added a new tool called Windows Subsystem for Android to make it happen. Using the WSA (Windows Subsystem for Android), you can install the Android app store and, from there, install any Android app of your choice. Once installed, you can launch the Android apps directly from the Start menu, just like any other Windows application. Pretty cool, right?

As with adding support to Linux, you should install the Windows Subsystem for Android to run Android apps in Windows 11. Thankfully, you can install Windows Subsystem for Android with just a few clicks.

Without further ado, let me guide you through the steps to install Windows Subsystem for Android and run Android apps in Windows 11.

1. System requirements

To install Windows Subsystem for Android and run Android apps in Windows 11, your computer should meet the following requirements. You cannot run Android apps if your system does not meet one or more requirements.

  1. Processor should be 8th-gen Intel i3 or higher or AMD Ryzen 3000 series or above.
  2. It Should have at least 8GB of memory. Microsoft recommends 16GB.
  3. SSD Storage.
  4. Support for Virtual Machine Platform feature.
  5. Microsoft Store version 22110.1402.6.0 or above.
  6. Windows 11 version 22000.0 or higher.
  7. Country: United States.
  8. A stable internet connection.
  9. A user account with Amazon (to log into the Amazon app store).

Important note: As of writing this, Microsoft supporters “United States” only for this feature. However, Microsoft will eventually add support for other countries. The same applies to Amazon Appstore.

Once you make sure your system meets all the requirements, follow the below steps one after the other.

2. Enable Hyper-V virtual features

The first and foremost thing to do is enable the “Virtual Machine Platform” and “Windows Hypervisor Platform” features. Let me show you how.

  1. Click the Start icon on the Taskbar.
  2. Search and open “Turn Windows features on or off.”
  3. Select the “Virtual Machine Platform” checkbox.
  4. Select the “Windows Hypervisor Platform” checkbox.
  5. Press the “Ok” button.
  6. Click the “Reboot Now” button.
  7. After restarting, both features are installed.

Steps with more details:

Press the Start key on your keyboard or click the Start icon on the Taskbar. Search and open the “Turn Windows features on or off” tool from the Start menu. This is the tool that allows to install or uninstall additional Windows features.

Select the “Virtual Machine Platform” and “Windows Hypervisor Platform” checkboxes. Press the “Ok” button to save changes. Both these features are required to install Windows Subsystem for Android.

Windows will install the required features and ask you to reboot. Click the “Reboot Now” option to restart Windows 11.

After restarting, both features are installed and enabled.

3. Install Windows Subsystem for Android

Once you enable the virtual platform and hypervisor, we can proceed to install Windows Subsystem for Android. For that, you have to install the Amazon Appstore for Android apps. When you do that, it will install the Subsystem for Android automatically. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Head over to the MS store page.
  2. Click the “Get in Store app” button.
  3. Press the “Install” button in the Store app.
  4. Press the “Download” button.
  5. Wait for the download to complete.
  6. Press the “Open Amazon Appstore” button.
  7. With that, you have installed the Windows Subsystem for Android.
  8. Click the “Already an Amazon customer? Sign in” button.
  9. Type the Amazon credentials and click the “Sign In” button.

Steps with more details:

First, head to the MS Store web page with the above link and click the “Get in Store app” button. This action will open the Amazon Appstore page in the Microsoft Store app in Windows 11.

Note: As of writing, the Amazon Appstore won’t appear if you search for it directly in the Microsoft Store app. This is because both the Subsystem and Amazon Store app are in the preview stage. Of course, once they are fully available to the general public, you can search for Amazon Appstore directly in the Store app.

Click the “Install” button on the Store app page.

Note: If the “Install” button is grayed out or not available, it is possible that the app is not supported in your country or the computer is not compatible.

Now, press the “Download” button. Windows will download all the required components to install Windows Subsystem for Android and the Amazon Appstore.

Once done, click the “Open Amazon Appstore” button.

Click the “Already an Amazon customer? Sign in” button, type your Amazon credentials and click the “Sign In” button.

If you don’t have an account with Amazon, create one by clicking the “Create a new Amazon account” button.

4. Install Android apps on Windows 11

Officially, you can install Android apps from the Amazon Android App store. Here’s how.

  1. Open the Amazon Appstore from the Start menu.
  2. Find the app you want to install.
  3. You can use the search bar to find the app.
  4. Click the “Get” button.
  5. Press the “Download/Install” button.
  6. After downloading, you can open it from the app store or the Start menu.
  7. With that, you’ve installed Android Apps in Windows 11.
