When your PC connects to a network, it gets assigned an IP address that lets you communicate with the internet and other devices on the network. In simple terms, the IP address is what differentiates your connection from others on the network. Generally, most users never need to know the IP address for day-to-day usage. However, there will be times when you need to know your device’s IP address. For example, to allow other devices to connect to your PC, set up a network or media share, or configure custom settings in your router.

Thankfully, on Windows 10, you have multiple methods to find your IP address. In this quick and easy guide, I will show you three ways to find the IP address in Windows 10. Let’s get started.

Local and Public IP Addresses

Remember that you will see a local IP address as your computer IP address if you are connected to a router or mobile hotspot network. In case you don’t know, local IP addresses are not public-facing IP addresses. That means you cannot use them to connect to your computer over the internet. Any IP address that falls in the 10.0.0.0 – 10.255.255.255, 172.16.0.0 – 172.31.255.255, or 192.168.0.0 – 192.168.255.255 range are local IP addresses. For example, in all the screenshots I added, my IP address is in the 192.168.x.x range. It means that I’m using a local IP address.

If you want to know the actual public-facing IP address. i.e., the IP address given by your ISP (Internet Service Provider), either go this website or do a quick Google or Bing search for “What is my IP address”. Alternatively, you can also find it by contacting your ISP.

That is all. It is that simple to find the IP address of your Windows 10 PC. If you have any questions or need help, comment below. I’ll be happy to assist.
