Is your display brightness too high or low? Here are a couple of easy ways to adjust brightness in Windows 11 in simple and easy steps.
It is not frequent, but there will be times when you need to adjust the display brightness of your external or built-in display, like your laptop. For instance, if you are indoors, lowering the monitor brightness will reduce eye strain and overall light emission from the screen. As an added benefit, your power bill will decrease too. On the other hand, you might want to boost the display brightness when outdoors to see better. You can strain your eyes too much without changing the brightness to match outdoor lighting.
The good thing is that it is pretty easy to adjust brightness in Windows 11. It takes to drag a slider, and you are good to go. Alternatively, you can use commands or third-party Windows software to change the brightness in Windows 11.
So, without further ado, let me show you easy ways to adjust display brightness in Windows 11 operating system.

- Move the slider to the left to decrease brightness.

The top slider at the bottom is the brightness slider in the Quick Settings panel. Moving it to the right increases the brightness, whereas sliding to the left reduces it.
As you move the slider, you should see the brightness changing. Set the slider position according to your brightness requirement.

Important note: The brightness slider is only available on laptops. If you are on a desktop, follow the seventh method.

Command to adjust display brightness
As with most things, you can do almost anything using the command line. Adjusting the brightness is nothing different. It is pretty simple to do. Let me show you how to do it in simple steps.
First, open the Windows 11 Terminal. You can either search for “Terminal” in the Start menu or choose “Windows Terminal” or “Terminal” from the “Win + X” menu.
After opening the Terminal window, make sure the PowerShell tab is opened. Execute the following command in the PowerShell tab. Don’t forget to replace <BrightnessLevel> with the brightness level between 0 and 100. As you can guess, 0 is the lowest brightness level, and 100 is the highest.
(Get-WmiObject -Namespace root/WMI -Class WmiMonitorBrightnessMethods).WmiSetBrightness(1,<Brightness Level>)
After setting the brightness, you can safely close the terminal window.
Change brightness from Nvidia Control Panel
If you have an Nvidia Graphics Card, you should use the Nvidia Control Panel. The good thing is, apart from customizing your graphics card, you can also change the Windows 11 brightness from there. It is pretty easy to do. Let me show you how.

- Open the Start menu.
- Search and open “AMD Radeon Software.”
- Click the “Settings” icon.
- Go to the “Display” tab.
- Select the display on the top bar.
- Use the Brightness slider to adjust brightness.
Use Intel Graphics Control Panel to adjust brightness
If your system uses Intel Integrated Graphics, you can use the Intel Graphics Control Panel to adjust the brightness. Here is how.
- Open the Start menu.
- Search and open “Intel Graphics Control Panel.”
- Click on “Display.”
- Choose “Color settings” on the sidebar.
- Select the display if necessary.

Use monitor buttons to change display brightness
If you are on a desktop, you need to use the monitor options (OSD settings) to change the brightness. The monitor controls are not available in Windows.
Typically, you need to open the monitor’s OSD settings using the available buttons on the monitor, navigate to the brightness section and then adjust the screen brightness. Please refer to the monitor user manual to know how to open monitor OSD settings and change brightness.
You can also use third-party software to change desktop monitor brightness.
Keyboard shortcuts to adjust brightness
Almost all laptops and some desktop keyboards have dedicated keys to change brightness. Typically, you can see the brightness indicators on the function keys. You need to press and hold the “Fn” key and then press the relevant brightness key to increase or decrease the screen brightness.
Depending on the laptop/keyboard manufacturer, the brightness keys and their placement will differ. Please refer to your keyboard or user manual to know where they are.
