How to Disable Autoplay Videos in Edge Chromium Browser

Don’t like video playing automatically? Follow these steps to fully stop or disable autoplay videos in the Edge Chromium browser.

One of the things a majority of internet users dislike is autoplay videos. Not only the video streaming consumes a lot of data but the sudden or unexpected audio can be obnoxious. This is very prevalent in major news websites that stream their own news. Often, the video that is being auto-played is not even relevant to the content you are reading.

The good thing is, you can block autoplay videos globally or on a per-site basis. Below are the steps you should follow to disable video autoplay in the new Edge Chromium browser.

That is all. From now on, anytime you open a website or web page in a new tab, Edge Chromium will automatically block and autoplay video or audio.

If the above settings did not work for you then use extensions like Disable HTML5 autoplay. This extension will block any and all video components on a webpage. If needed, you can set per-site exemptions. The exemption is particularly helpful for sites like Youtube, Twitch, Netflix, etc.

Do keep in mind that you need to enable a small setting to install Chrome extensions in the Edge Chromium browser.
