How to Always Show Scrollbars in Windows 10 Apps & Settings

For ease of access and usability, you can make the Windows 10 Settings app and other modern apps to always show scrollbars. Here’s how.

Almost all the modern or UWP apps have scrollbars that look like lines that are only a couple of pixels wide. When you hover your mouse over the scrollbar, it will expand to the normal-sized scrollbar. As you can see, this new scrollbar style is in contrast to the regular styled scrollbars. Though the new line style scrollbars look nice and try not to be an eyesore, they are also harder to use if you want to grab it with the mouse pointer. This is especially true for differentially-abled people. Sure the scrollbar extends on mouse hover but it can still be a problem for users with dexterity problems.

The good thing is, Microsoft thought about this and provided an option to always show scrollbars at its normal size. So, if you ever need, follow the below steps to always show scrollbars in Windows 10.

Always Show Scrollbars in Windows 10

Since Microsoft considers showing scrollbars an Ease of Access feature, you can find the option on the same page. From there, you can disable modern scrollbars and show regular scrollbars. Let me show you how.

1. First, open the PC Settings app. You can open it by searching for “Settings” in the Start menu or by pressing the Win + I keyboard shortcut or by clicking on the “All Settings” button in the Notification Center.

2. After opening the Settings app, go to the “Ease of Access → Display” page.

3. Once you are here, find the “Automatically hide scroll bars in Windows” option and toggle switch under it to the “Off” position.

That is all. The changes are instant. From now on, Windows will not hide the scrollbars and will always show them. If you want to reverse it and hide them, all you have to do is enable the option shown in step 3.
