How to Trim Video in Windows 10 Using Built-in Movies & TV App

If you’ve ever downloaded videos from the internet, you might have see them most if not all of them have some sort of intro and outro added to the actual video. Generally, this is not such a bad thing. However, if you don’t like your downloaded videos to have intro and outros, you can easily trim videos in Windows 10.

The good thing is, you don’t have to install any other app to trim a video in Windows 10. You can do it using the built-in Movies & TV app. Add to that the app makes it stupidly easy to trim videos. You don’t even have to worry about video resolution or quality. The app keeps the original resolution and quality intact even after trimming the video. Without further ado, let me show you how to trim video in Windows 10 with Movies and TV app.

Note: Microsoft in their infinite wisdom, in some locations, calls the same Movies & TV app as Film & TV. So, if you can’t find Movies & TV app or if you see Film & TV, it’s one and the same.

Follow the below steps you should have a trimmed video in just a few seconds.

1. Find the video you want to trim and open it with Movies and TV app. You can either find the video in the Movies and TV app or you can right-click on the video and select “Open -> Movies & TV” option.

2. Once the video is opened with Movies and TV app, it starts to play the app. Pause the video and click on the “Edit” icon (Pencil icon). This is where you can find the options to trim the video.

3. From the Edit menu, select the “Trim” option. This option is what lets you easily trim video in Windows 10.

4. As soon as you select the Trim option, the video will be opened in the Photos app. At the starting point of the video, you will see a red marker on the timeline. Move the white dot to set the starting trim point. When you move the white dot, the red marker will along with it. In my case, I want to remove the first four seconds of the video. So, I’ve moved the white dot accordingly.

5. Next, move the white dot at the end of the timeline to set the endpoint for the trim. In my case, I want to remove the last fourteen seconds of the video. So, I’ve moved the white dot accordingly.

6. After setting the starting and ending markers for video trimming, hit the “Save a Copy” button appearing on the top right corner.

7. As soon as you click on the button, the app will start to trim and render the video. Depending on the video length, size, and resolution, it can take some time to complete the trimming process. For instance, a 1080p video with 3:40 length took around 20 seconds to trim video.

8. Once the trimming has been completed, the progress bar will disappear. You will find the trimmed video in the same folder as the original video. The trimmed video will have the suffix “_Trim” added to it.

That is it. It is that simple to trim a video in Windows 10 using the built-in Movies and TV app.

      No. This tool is more of trim so that you can trim the ending and/or starting of a video and save whatever left. For cutting a video, you have to use other software like Avidemux. In this case, Avidemux is free and open-source.
