How to Stop Epic Launcher from Starting with Windows

Here’re the steps you should follow to remove Epic from Windows startup and stop Epic Launcher from starting with Windows 10.

When you install the Epic game launcher in Windows 10, it will add itself to the startup list. Doing so will make Windows start the Epic game launcher application as soon as you log in. This is very useful if you want instant access to the Epic launcher as soon as you start the system.

The downside is that the Epic games launcher is a pretty heavy application and increases the Windows 10 boot time. To make Windows 10 boot faster and reduce its startup time, you can remove Epic game launcher from Windows startup. After all, you can always open the application manually as and when needed.

How do I Stop Epic Games Launcher from Starting with Windows

There are two ways to remove Epic games launcher from the Windows startup list. I will show both methods. Follow the one you like.

1. From Epic Games Launcher App

To disable Epic launcher startup from the application settings, follow these steps.

  1. Open the Start menu by pressing the Windows Key.
  2. Search for “Epic Games Launcher” and open it.
  3. In the application, click on the “Settings” option.
Disable epic launcher windows startup - settings
  4. Now, “Uncheck” the “Run when my computer starts” option.
Disable epic launcher windows startup - uncheck

The settings are saved automatically and you’ve removed Epic launcher from the Windows startup. From now on, Epic Games Launcher will not start with Windows.

To enable it back and make the application start with Windows, follow the same steps but select the checkbox in step 4.

2. From Task Manager

To prevent Epic Games Launcher from starting with Windows using the task manager, follow the below steps.

  1. Right-click on the taskbar.
  2. Select the “Task Manager” option.
Disable epic launcher windows startup - task manager
  3. In the task manager, go to the “Startup” tab.
  4. Find “EpicGamesLauncher” in the list and select it.
  5. Click on the “Disable” button.
Disable epic launcher windows startup - disable

That is it. As soon as you click on the disable button, Windows will remove it from the startup list. Once removed, Epic launcher can no longer start with Windows.

To enable it back, follow the same steps but select “Enable” in step 5.

Why Remove Epic Games Launcher from Windows Startup List?

Like many applications, Epic launcher will add itself to the Windows startup list as soon as you install it. Generally, this is a good thing. However, the more applications you have in the Windows startup queue, the longer will be the Windows startup time. This is because Windows tries to launch all the applications in the startup list as soon as you log into the system.

Since more apps in the startup list mean longer startup times, it is always a good thing to disable apps that are not absolutely necessary to start with Windows.

If you really want an application to start automatically after Windows startup but don’t want it to affect the overall Windows startup time, you can use the task scheduler to delay startup programs. I’ve already written a detailed guide on how you can do it. Click on the link to learn how.
