How to Change Desktop Wallpaper Automatically Every Day

Desktop wallpapers are a great way to customize and add some flair and personality to your computer. However, after a while, seeing the same wallpaper every day can become dull and uninteresting. Though changing the wallpaper is a relatively easy task on Windows, automating it can help you greatly.

Luckily, there are ways to change your desktop wallpaper automatically, so you can enjoy a new and fresh look every day without manually updating it yourself.

In this quick and easy guide, let me show you how to change the desktop wallpaper every day automatically using built-in Windows options like the wallpaper slideshow, Windows Spotlight, and free third-party wallpaper changer apps.

Table of contents:

  1. Use Windows Spotlight to change wallpaper every day
  2. Set up a wallpaper slideshow
  3. Use automatic wallpaper changer apps

Use Windows Spotlight To Change Wallpaper Every Day

On Windows 11, you can use the newly introduced Spotlight feature to set a new wallpaper daily. You can think of Spotlight as a built-in wallpaper changer application. If you don’t know, Spotlight uses Bing wallpapers. In previous versions, Windows has Spotlight for lock screen wallpapers only. However, Microsoft added it for desktop wallpapers too.

Here’s how to set up Spotlight for changing desktop wallpaper automatically on Windows:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Select “Personalization” on the sidebar.
  3. Click on “Background” on the right page.
  4. Select “Spotlight” from the Personalize your background dropdown.
  5. With that, Windows will set a new wallpaper every day automatically.

Steps with more details:

To start, launch the Settings app on Windows 11. You can either use the “Windows key + I” keyboard shortcut or click the Settings icon in the Start menu.

Once the Settings app is opened, click the “Personalization” option on the sidebar. Next, go to the “Background” page. As the name implies, this page has all the options to customize the wallpaper and other desktop customization options.

Select the “Spotlight” option from the “Personalize your background” dropdown menu on this page.

As soon as you select the option, Windows will automatically change the desktop wallpaper every day. As I said earlier, Spotlight uses Bing wallpapers.

Set up a Wallpaper Slideshow

If you don’t like using Windows Spotlight or third-party apps to set the desktop wallpaper, you can configure Windows to show the wallpaper slideshow and set the wallpaper change interval to one day. That way, you will have new wallpaper every day. This method is especially useful if you already have a set of wallpapers. For example, I’ve been collecting wallpapers for years now, and I have a good catalog. So, I generally enable wallpaper slideshow so that I can enjoy all my favorite wallpapers.

Use Automatic Wallpaper Changer Apps

Windows has several third-party wallpaper changer apps that automatically change the desktop background at set intervals. This is especially useful if you don’t like using Spotlight or if you don’t have access to it. For instance, if you run Windows 10 or lower, you can use the below free apps to change the wallpaper automatically daily.

1. Dynamic Theme app

Dynamic Theme is a free wallpaper changer app for Windows 10 & 11 available via Microsoft Store. This free app automatically downloads a new Bing wallpaper every day and sets it as your desktop and lock screen wallpaper.

Let me show you how to use it.

1. Download and install Dynamic Theme from Microsoft Store.

2. After installing, open it by searching for “Dynamic Theme” in the Start Menu.

3. In the app, navigate to the “Background” tab on the right panel, select “Bing” from the drop-down menu, and select “Fill” from the “Choose to fit” drop-down menu. All changes are saved instantly; there is no Save button. Turn ON the Synchronization option if you have multiple devices connected to the same Microsoft account.

Note: If the wallpaper doesn’t change instantly, click the “Update” button.

  1. Avatar for Misaki

Bing image is not being updated daily until we click on Update everytime like Windows Spotlight does on Lock Screen automatically.

Hi Misaki, double check the app configuration. See step no 3 and make sure that the “Background” is set to Bing. Also, make sure the app has permission to run in the background (Settings app -> Privacy -> Background apps).

Let me know if this solved the issue.
