Learn the simplest way to quickly remove the ‘Edit with Paint’ option from the right-click context menu in Windows 11.
When you right-click on an image in Windows 11, you will see the “Edit with Paint” option. Selecting this option opens the image in the Paint app. While useful, when was the last time you opened any image in Paint? As such, it is pretty much a useless option that not only clutters the context menu but also makes it a tiny bit slower to load under certain circumstances. Thankfully, with a small registry tweak, you can easily remove this option. Once removed, your right-click context menu will have one less useless option, which in turn makes it that much more useful.

In this quick and easy guide, let me show you how to remove the Edit with Paint option from the context menu in simple steps. Let’s get started.
Before You Start
- Administrator rights are required to modify the context menu to remove the Edit with Paint option.
- The following process requires editing the registry. Before doing that, please back up the registry.
Remove ‘Edit with Paint’ from Context Menu
- Open the Start menu by pressing the “Windows” key.
- Search for and open “Registry Editor“.
- Go to the following folder in the Registry Editor.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions - Right-click the “Shell Extensions” folder on the left panel.
- Select “New” > “Key“.

- Right-click on the “Blocked” folder.
- Select “New” > “String Value“.
- Set the name as “{2430F218-B743-4FD6-97BF-5C76541B4AE9}“.

Detailed Steps (With Screenshots)
To make this work, you must modify the registry. So, the first thing you should do is open the Registry Editor. To do that, open the Start menu by pressing the “Windows” key, search for “Registry Editor“, and click the “Open” option.

After opening the Registry Editor, go to the following folder.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions

Now, we need to create a sub-folder under the Shell Extensions folder. To do that, right-click the “Shell Extensions” folder and select “New” and then “Key“. The above action creates a new blank folder. Name the folder “Blocked“.

Next, right-click the “Blocked” folder and select “New” and then “String Value“. Name the new value as “{2430F218-B743-4FD6-97BF-5C76541B4AE9}“.

That is it. Close the registry editor and restart your computer. After restarting, the “Edit with Paint” option is removed from the right-click context menu.
