For touchscreen users, the Microsoft Edge browser has a built-in touch mode that makes browsing easier. When enabled, UI elements like buttons, text, icons, and tabs become larger and spaced out for better accessibility.
By default, Edge automatically enables or disables touch mode based on your device’s touchscreen status. For example, if you are using your device in touchscreen mode, the touch mode feature in Microsoft Edge is automatically enabled. However, if it doesn’t activate or you prefer to control it manually, you can easily toggle it in the settings.
In this quick tutorial, I’ll show you how to turn touch mode ON or OFF in Microsoft Edge in simple steps. Let’s get started!
Turn Touch Mode ON or OFF in Microsoft Edge
- Press the Windows button to open the Start menu.
- Search and open “Microsoft Edge“.
- Click the “three dots” icon on the top right corner.
- Select the “Settings” option.
- Go to the “Appearance” tab on the sidebar.
- Scroll down to the “Touch” section on the right panel.
- Select the following option from the “Touch Mode” dropdown.
- On — To turn on touch mode.
- Off — To turn off touch mode.
- With that, you’ve manually changed the touch mode in Edge.
Detailed Steps (With Screenshots)
As the first step, open the Microsoft Edge browser if it is not already. You can do that by searching for “Microsoft Edge” in the Start menu and clicking the “Open” button.

Once the browser opens, click the “three dots” in the top-right corner and select the “Settings” option from the flyout menu.

In the Settings tab, go to the “Appearance” tab on the sidebar. Next, scroll down to the “Touch” section on the right panel.
To enable touch mode, select “ON” from the “Touch Mode” dropdown. To disable, select “OFF“.
Note: Setting the touch mode option to “Auto” lets Edge decide when to enable or disable touch mode based on your device.

That is it. It is that simple to manually enable or disable touch mode in the Edge browser.
