The mono audio setting helps you listen better when you have only one speaker. Here is how to turn on mono audio in Windows OS.
Windows by default uses Stereo audio to output sound. If you don’t know, stereo uses two audio channels to output the sound, while mono, as the name implies, only uses one audio channel. Since almost all speakers come in pairs. i.e., left and right speakers, stereo is the way to go. After all, it gives you a richer and fuller sound.
One of the best things about stereo sound is that it is capable of Sound Source Localization. If you don’t know what it is, think of it as the ability to emulate the sound position in the environment. For example, if a car travels down the road, the sound should change depending on its position relative to you. Stereo can emulate the sound localization and adjust the sound based on the car position thanks to the left and right speakers and two audio channels.
As good as the stereo sound is, there will be times when you are forced to use mono sound in Windows. For instance, if one of your speakers is damaged or not working properly for whatever reason, you can turn on mono audio in Windows.
Once turned on, mono audio will use a single audio channel and outputs sound from only one speaker. To put it simply, Windows can convert stereo audio to mono audio.
