When your computer or laptop is turned on, the screen emits blue light. This is usually not a problem during the day. However, at night, blue light disrupts your circadian rhythm, affecting your sleep schedule. To mitigate this, you can enable the Night Light feature in Windows 10. Optionally, you can also schedule Night Light so that it turns on automatically. This feature reduces blue light by changing the color temperature to a warmer tone. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to enable and schedule Night Light. Let’s get started.
Turn On Night Light via Action Center in Windows 10
- Click the Action Center icon on the taskbar.
- Click the Night Light button to activate Night Light.
- If you can’t find the button, click on Expand to show more options.
Note: Once the Night Light feature is turned on, the button turns colorful to indicate it.
Turn on Night Light via Settings in Windows 10
Alternatively, you can also enable Night Light in Windows 10 using the Settings app. The advantage of this method is that you can set the Night Light schedule and customize the color temperature strength. Here are the steps to follow:
- Open the Settings app.
- Go to the System page.
- Select the Display tab.
- Turn ON the Night Light toggle to activate the Night Light.
- Close the Settings app.
Note: By default, Windows 10 schedules Night Light from 9 PM to 7 AM. If you want to activate Night Light outside this time and turn it on instantly, click the Night Light settings option and then click the Turn on now button.
Detailed Steps (With Optional Configuration & Screenshots)
First, open the Settings app by pressing Windows key + I. After opening it, go to the System page, select the Display tab on the sidebar, and turn ON the Night Light toggle.

By default, Windows 10 automatically schedules Night Light to turn on from 9 PM to 7 AM. This means, if you are outside that time frame, Night Light will not turn on. If you want to use it right away, click the Night Light settings option and then click the Turn on now button.

You can also customize the strength of the warm color tone. To do that, click the Night Light settings option and use the Strength slider to adjust the intensity. For example, to increase the warm tone, move the slider to the right. To reduce, move the slider to the left.

You can also customize the Night Light schedule to meet your specific requirements. For example, you might want Windows 10 to turn on Night Light automatically as soon as the sun sets. That way, you don’t have to deal with the blue light.
To change the Night Light schedule, ensure the Schedule night light toggle is turned ON.
Next, select the Sunset to Sunrise option if you want Windows 10 to follow the natural light cycle and automatically adjust the Night Light based on your location.
Important note: To use the Sunset to Sunrise option, you need to turn on location access in Windows 10.

Alternatively, if you want to use a specific time range (e.g., 6 PM to 7 AM), select Set hours and then set the Turn on and Turn off times.

Once you are done configuring, close the Settings app.
