How To Enable Blue Light Filter on Windows 11 (Night Light)

The new Night Light feature can reduce eye strain when looking at the computer screen. Here is how to turn on Night Light in Windows 11.

Starting in Windows 10, Microsoft added a handy feature called Night Light. When turned on, Windows will change the display color temperature to warm. This, in turn, reduces the eye strain while looking at the display. If you don’t know, almost all modern color displays like your mobile phone, laptop screen, or external monitor emit blue light under normal conditions. This blue light from your screen can delay sleep and even increase eye strain under certain circumstances.

Over the years, Windows users had to use third-party applications like F.lux. However, that is no longer needed. You can now enable Night Light in Windows 11 and reduce eye strain. This new feature is handy for users working long hours at night.

So, without delay, here is how to turn on Night Light in Windows 11 and schedule Night Light at a specific time in Windows 11.

What is the Night Light feature in Windows 11?

The new Night Light feature in Windows 11 reduces blue light emitting from your display. This will reduce eye strain and help you sleep better at night.

If you don’t know, blue light from your screen, be it a laptop, smartphone, or an external monitor is very different from other light wavelengths. Blue light is known to throw your circadian rhythm out the window and disrupt the biological clock.

Now, any kind of light at night is not that good for your eyes. However, blue light is the worst at disturbing your biological clock. Once disturbed, your sleep schedule will suffer and increase eye strain. In fact, sleep disruption can even cause other health problems like obesity, diabetes, hair fall, and more.

Due to all the problems associated with blue light, it is better to avoid it as much as possible. That is one of the reasons why doctors suggest using dim, warm light even at home when bright white or blue light is not absolutely necessary.

In Windows, you can turn on the Night Light feature to reduce blue light emitting from the screen.
