Want to use the Hibernate feature? Here is how to enable and show the hibernate option in the Windows 11 Start menu.
Hibernate is one of those forgotten features that used to be used by everyone as a better alternative to sleep. Mainly because Hibernate will save the system state even if you completely turn off the power. However, on Windows 11, the hibernate option is disabled and will not appear in the Start menu because of improved sleep mode, which also supports saving the system state to disk, giving you the best of both worlds. While this is a good thing, not every system supports the new hybrid sleep mode. In those cases, you can enable the Hibernate feature in Windows 11 and show the Hibernate option in the Start menu.
The good thing is that, while the option is disabled, you can easily show the Hibernate option in the Windows 11 Start menu via the Control Panel settings. Here’s how.
Show Hibernate Option in the Windows 11 Start Menu
To show the Hibernate option in the Start menu, we first need to enable it in the Control Panel. Here’s how:
- Open the Start menu.
- Search for and open “Control Panel“.
- Set “View by” to “Large icons” or “Small icons“.
- Find and click “Power Options“.
- Click the “Choose what the power buttons do” link.
- Click “Change settings that are currently unavailable“.
- Select the “Hibernate” checkbox.
- Click “Apply“.
- Close the Control Panel window.
- With that, the Hibernate option will appear in the Start menu.
Detailed Steps (With Screenshots)
We need to open the Control Panel first. You can either search for “Control Panel” in the Start menu or use the “control” Run command (Windows key + R).
After opening the Control Panel window, set the “View by” dropdown to “Large icons” or “Small icons“. Next, click the “Power Options” option.

In the Power Options window, click the “Choose what the power buttons do” link on the sidebar.

Next, click the “Change settings that are currently unavailable” link at the top.

Now select the “Hibernate” checkbox, then click the “Apply” and “OK” buttons. Finally, close the Control Panel window.

With that, Hibernate is enabled on Windows 11. From now on, you will see the Hibernate option in the Power Options section of the Start menu.

You will also see the hibernate option in the Power User menu (Win + X).

That is all. It is that simple to enable and show the Hibernate option in the Windows 11 Start menu. If you have any questions or need help, comment below. I’ll be happy to assist.
Doesn’t work. While I can enable hibernate as an option for the power button, it’s still not an option of the power selection options of the start menu.
I just tried the steps and it worked. I can see the Hibernate option in the Start menu. Have you followed the steps closely?
