After all, it is pretty busy with various components like the news, background image, and quick links. Though some may like these features, some might what a clean new tab in the Edge browser. For example, I really don’t like the quick links or the new content on my new tab page.

The good thing is, the Edge browser gives you a fair bit of options to customize the look and feel of the new tab page. In fact, there are 3 different pre-defined layouts to help you customize the new tab page. For advanced customization, you can use the custom option to hide or remove the quick links and new content from the Edge new tab page. There is no need to use some third-party extension.

1. Open the Edge browser. To do that, either click on the Edge icon on the taskbar or search for “Edge” in the Start menu.

2. Open a new tab after opening the Edge browser. You can do that by clicking on the “+” icon next to the tab on the title bar.

3. Click on the “Gear” icon on the new tab page. You’ll find the icon in the top right corner of the page.

4. Select the “custom” option from the available list. This is the option that lets you remove the news and quick links for the new tab page.

5. Here, turn off the following options in the Custom menu.

  • Show quick links: OFF
  • Show greeting: OFF
  • Background: OFF

6. After that, select the “Content Off” option from the content dropdown menu.

7. Settings are saved automatically. Just click on the “X” icon or anywhere outside the Custom flyout menu to close it.

Edge added quick links I do not want. But I want to keep my old links. If it continues I will be forced to get rid of edge.
In the meantime how do I get rid of the individual links i do not want.
Not happy with Microsoft wasting my time like this.

Thank you David. I have been trying to do the same thing. There is at least 10 stacked quick links. I have attempted to get rid of them but they keep coming back. Unnecessary screen links.

I’ve been trying to figure this out for some time.
Click the gear; click custom…and then I’m lost as I do not have
    Show quick links:
    Show greeting:

Under custom, I have quick links 1 row; 2 rows or off.
Background OFF; image of the day; Your own image or custom image.

I don’t have the ability to toggle show greeting, etc as it’s not there as an option. I delete the links I don’t want and they reappear once I close/reopen my browser.
