Don’t want the language switcher icon (input indicator) on your Windows 11 taskbar? Here’s a quick guide showing how to easily hide or remove it.
If you’ve installed more than one keyboard layout in Windows 11, the system automatically displays the language icon (input indicator or keyboard layout icon) on the taskbar. Clicking it lets you quickly switch keyboard layouts whenever you want.

However, if you don’t use this feature or simply want to save taskbar space, you can easily remove the icon using the Settings app. The best part? Even after hiding this taskbar icon, the “Windows key + Space” keyboard shortcut still works for switching languages. This means you don’t lose any functionality by removing it from view.
In this quick tutorial, I’ll show you the exact steps to hide or remove the language input indicator from the taskbar in Windows 11. Let’s get started.
Good to know: Using Windows 10? Here’s how to remove the language input indicator from the Windows 10 taskbar
Hiding the Language Input Indicator from the Taskbar in Windows 11
You can remove the language switcher icon from the Advanced Keyboard Settings page in the Windows 11 Settings app. Here’s how.
- Press “Windows key + I” to open Settings.
- Select “Time & Language” on the sidebar.
- Click the “Typing” option on the right page.
- Click the “Advanced keyboard settings” option.
- Select the “Use the desktop language bar when it’s available” checkbox.
- Click the “Language Bar Options” option.
- Go to the “Language Bar” tab.
- Select “Hidden” under the “Language Bar” section.
- Click “OK“.
- Close the Settings app.
- The language icon is removed from the taskbar.
Detailed Steps (With Screenshots)
The first thing you should do is open the Settings app. To do that, either press the “Windows key + I” shortcut or right-click the Windows icon and select the “Settings” option.
Once the Settings window opens, go to the “Time & Language” tab from the sidebar and then click the “Typing” option on the right panel. This is where you can configure various settings related to your typing, such as autocorrect, text suggestions, advanced keyboard settings, and more.

The language switcher icon is considered an advanced option. So, click the “Advanced keyboard settings” option.

On this page, select the “Use the desktop language bar when it’s available” checkbox.

As soon as you select the checkbox, the language switcher icon is removed from the Windows 11 taskbar. But you will see a new floating language bar at the top of the screen. If you like it, you can keep it otherwise, follow the steps below to remove it.

Under the checkbox you selected earlier, click the “Language Bar Options” link/option.

Next, ensure you are in the “Language Bar” tab in the “Text Services and Input Languages” window, select the “Hidden” option, and click the “OK” button.

That is all. With that, you’ve completely removed the language input indicator icon from the taskbar in Windows 11. As I said earlier, even after removing the icon, you can press the “Windows key + Space” shortcut to switch between languages.
