No longer need a profile in the Edge browser? Follow these simple steps to remove a profile in the Microsoft Edge browser.
Like the Chrome web browser, Microsoft Edge browser also lets you create profiles. As you can guess, the Edge profiles allow you to separate different browsing experiences. For example, you can create separate profiles for work and personal use. I have also seen people creating individual profiles to open a couple of websites, mainly social media websites like Twitter and Facebook.
In general, it is easy to create profiles in the Microsoft Edge browser. All you have to do is click the user icon, click the “Add Profile” button and then follow the wizard. If you sign in with a Microsoft account in a profile, your settings, browsing history, extensions, input fields, address, etc., will automatically sync.
Since it is so easy to create profiles, it is only natural to go a bit overboard and create unnecessary profiles. In addition to that, you might no longer need a profile. In those cases, it is better to remove unused profiles in the Microsoft Edge browser. The problem is, some might get confused about how to do it. This is especially true if you have never dealt with profiles and the whole profiles thing is new.
Without further ado, I will show you how to remove a profile in the Microsoft Edge browser in simple steps.
Important note: When you remove a profile, Edge will delete all the associated data. It includes the browsing history, passwords, auto-fill data, extensions, etc. If you don’t want to lose this data, I recommend you sign into a Microsoft account and sync your settings. That way, you can restore it as and when needed.
Remove a profile in the Microsoft Edge browser
Follow the below steps to remove a profile in the Microsoft Edge browser.
- Open the Edge browser.
- Make sure you are in the profile you want to remove.
- Click on the “Menu” icon.
- Select the “Settings” option.
- Select the “Profiles” option on the sidebar.
- Click the “Menu” (three horizontal dots) icon next to your profile name.
- Click the “Remove” button.
- Press the “Remove profile” button to confirm.
- With that, you have removed the profile from the Edge browser.
First, open the Edge browser. You can do that by searching for it in the Start menu or clicking on the taskbar icon. After opening the browser, make sure you are in the profile you want to delete. If not, click on the user icon on the top-right corner and select the profile to switch to it.
Once you are in the profile, click the “Menu” icon and select the “Settings” option. Then, on the Settings page, select “Profiles” on the sidebar. Here, click the “More options” (three horizontal dots) icon next to the profile name and click the “Remove” button.
Finally, click the “Remove profile” button in the confirmation pop-up.
As soon as you click the button, Microsoft Edge will remove the profile permanently. After deleting the profile, Microsoft Edge will automatically switch to the last used profile.
As I said before, along with the profile, Edge will also remove all the associated data like saved passwords, cookies, website information, auto-fill data, browsing history, etc.
That is all. It is that simple to remove a profile in the Microsoft Edge browser.
I hope that helps.
