How to Pin or Unpin Items to Jump Lists in Windows 11

Jump Lists is an incredible feature to access folders and files quickly. Here is how to pin or unpin items to jump lists in Windows 11.

Though less used, Jump Lists has been one of the valuable features ever since Windows 7. Yes, the Jump Lists feature is still available in the Windows 11 operating system. If you don’t know, right-click on an application icon on the Taskbar, and you will see default app-related options and a list of pinned items. Those additional or pinned items are called a Jump List.

As you can guess, a Jump List makes it easy to access your favorite files and folders quickly. For example, you can pin your favorite or most used folders to the File Explorer jump list. It is one of my favorite ways to open the most-used folders using a mouse.

Since Jump Lists is a helpful feature, you must customize it with pinning and unpinning items as needed to get the most out of it.

Pin items to Jump Lists in Windows 11

Pinning an item to the Jump List is pretty. You either click the Pin icon or select the “Pin to this list” option from the context menu. Let me show you how.

1. Open the application.
2. Right-click on the app icon on the Taskbar.
3. Hover over the item you want to pin.
4. Click the “Pin” icon on the hovered item’s right side.
5. The item is immediately pinned to the Jump List of the app.

First, see if the app icon is pinned to the Taskbar. If not, open the application and pin the app. After pinning it, open the app and launch the file or folder in the app.

Now, right-click on the app icon, hover over the item you want to pin, and click on the “Pin” icon. Alternatively, right-click on the item and choose the “Pin to this list” option.

The item is pinned to the app Jump List as soon as you do that. Right-click on the app icon, and you should see the newly pinned item in the Jump List.

You should see a list of all the files or folders.

Unpin items to Jump Lists in Windows 11

Just as you can pin items to the Jump List, you can also unpin them from it. This is useful to remove unused or useless items. Let me show you how to do it.

1. Right-click on the app icon on the Taskbar.
2. Mouse over on the item you want to remove.
3. Click the “Unpin” icon.
4. With that, the item is unpinned from the Jump List.

As with pinning, right-click on the application icon on the Taskbar. This action shows the Jump List with pinned items.

Here, mouse over the item you want to remove and click the “Unpin” icon. Alternatively, right-click on the item you want to remove from the Jump List and choose the “Unpin from this list” option.
