Learn how to open the settings panel in the Copilot app to configure its permissions, privacy settings, subscription plan, memory, and more.
On Windows 11, Microsoft pre-installs the Copilot app, allowing you to use and converse with AI and have all the conversations in one place. By default, the Copilot app works fine. However, there might be times when you need to change specific settings to make the app work as you need. For example, stop Copilot from starting with Windows, disallow access to file search & file read, manage what it knows about you, etc. You can do all this and more via the Copilot settings.
However, for whatever reason, opening Copilot settings can be tricky with the new app, as there is no indication of where it would be. That’s where this tutorial comes into play. It shows you how to open Copilot settings with just a few clicks. Let’s get started.
Open Copilot App Settings in Windows 11
- Open the Start menu by pressing the “Windows key”.
- Search and open “Copilot“.
- Click the “Open sidebar” icon in the top-left corner.
- Click your user account icon in the bottom left corner.
- Select the “Settings” option.
- With that, the Copilot settings will open.
Detailed Steps (With Screenshots)
First thing, open the Copilot app. To do that, you can either press the “Windows key + C” shortcut or open the Start menu, search for “Copilot”, and click “Open”.
Once the app opens, click the “Open sidebar” icon in the top-left corner. This instantly shows the sidebar.

Here, click your user account icon in the bottom left corner and then select the “Settings” option.

That is it. With that, the Settings page opens in the Copilot app. From this page, you can manage all the privacy settings, memory management, permissions, and more.
