If you are using a dual monitor setup, by default, you will see the taskbar on the second monitor too. While the taskbar on the second monitor lets you open and switch between apps easily, there will be situations where you need to hide the taskbar on your second monitor. For instance, maybe you want to use your second monitor for streaming, presentations, to maximize screen real estate, to focus on the primary monitor, etc.
Whatever your specific use case, Windows has a simple option to hide the taskbar on your second monitor. It’s a pretty simple thing. In this tutorial, I will show the steps you should follow to achieve this. Let’s get started.
Hide Taskbar on Second Monitor in Windows 11
- Press “Windows key + I” to open Settings.
- Navigate to the “Personalization” tab on the sidebar.
- Click the “Taskbar” option.
- Click the “Taskbar behaviors” option to expand it.
- Uncheck the “Show my taskbar on all displays” checkbox.
- With that, the taskbar on the second monitor is hidden.
Detailed Steps (With Screenshots)
As always, open the Settings app as the first step. You can do it by pressing the “Windows key + I” or by right-clicking the Start button on the taskbar and selecting the “Settings” option.
In the Settings window, go to the “Personalization” tab and click the “Taskbar” option on the right page.
On the “Taskbar” page, click the “Taskbar behaviors” option to expand the section. Next, uncheck the “Show my taskbar on all displays” checkbox.
The taskbar is hidden on the second monitor as soon as you uncheck the option. In fact, the taskbar will only appear on the primary monitor and be hidden on all other monitors.
Hide Taskbar on Second Monitor in Windows 10
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select the “Settings” option.
- Click the “Personalization” option.
- Navigate to the “Taskbar” option on the sidebar.
- On the right page, turn OFF the “Show taskbar on all displays” toggle.
- With that, you will no longer see the taskbar on the second display.
Wrapping Up — Hiding the Taskbar on the Second Monitor
As you can see, thanks to the built-in options in Windows 11 and Windows 10, it is fairly easy to hide the taskbar on your second monitor. In fact, the taskbar only appears on the primary monitor. If you wish to not see the taskbar on all displays in a multi-monitor setup the steps get the job done. If necessary, you can even hide the taskbar (on Windows 10) on the primary monitor too.
