How to Find Audio Jack Information in Windows 11

You can find which jack is in use for which sound device using the Settings app and Control Panel in Windows 11. Here’s how.

Quick steps: Open Settings, go to “System” > “Sound“, click the sound device under the Input/Output section, and expand “Jack Information” to see which jack the sound device is using.

If you have multiple wired sound devices connected to your computer, like an external speaker, headphones, and a mic, there will be times when you want to know which device is connected to which audio jack. If the audio jacks are on the front, you can see them quite easily. However, if they are on the rear panel or the PC or audio device isn’t near you, finding which device is connected to which audio jack will be very difficult.

Thankfully, you can use Windows 11’s Settings app or the Control Panel to quickly and easily find out the audio jack information for sound devices. In this quick and easy guide, I will show two methods. Let’s get started.

Find Jack Information for Sound Devices Using the Settings App

Since this method uses the Settings app, open it by pressing the “Windows key + I” shortcut. After that, go to the “System” tab on the sidebar and then click the “Sound” option in the right panel.

On this page, if the audio device you want to check is an output device, click and expand the “Output” section. If it’s an input sound device, click and expand the “Input” section. Next, click the audio device under the “Output” or “Input” section.

Scroll down to the “Advanced settings” section and then click the “Jack Information” section. It immediately shows the audio jack information that the device is connected to.

That’s it. You can close the Settings app once you have the jack information.

Find Jack Information for Sound Devices Using the Control Panel

To launch the Control Panel, open the Start menu, search for “Control Panel“, and click the top result or the “Open” option. In the Control Panel window, click the “Hardware and Sound” option.

Click the “Sound” option.

The above action opens the “Sound” dialog. Here, go to the “Playback” tab for audio output devices and “Recording” for audio input devices. Next, right-click the device you want to check and select the “Properties” option.

Under the General tab, you will find which jack is being used by the audio device under the “Jack Information” section.

Once you know the info, you can close the device properties, Sound, and Control Panel windows.

That’s it. Write down below any comments or questions you have. I’ll respond quickly.

Thank you, Vamsi.
