Windows 11 includes a helpful feature called “Startup App Notification,” which, when enabled, alerts you via a notification whenever a new application is added to your startup list. This ensures you won’t be blindsided by new startup apps. As most of you already know, many applications add themselves to the startup list as soon as you install or update them, allowing them to launch and run automatically. If you don’t monitor your startup list and disable unnecessary applications, it can increase your system’s overall boot time and potentially slow down performance. In this tutorial, I will show you the simplest way to enable Startup App Notification in Windows 11 so you can stay informed about new startup apps.
Steps to Enable Startup App Notification on Windows 11
- Open Settings using the “Windows key + I” shortcut.
- Navigate to the System tab.
- Click on the Notifications option.
- Scroll down and turn ON the Startup App Notification toggle.
- From now on, you will receive a notification when there is a new startup app.
Detailed Steps (With Screenshots)
First, press the Windows key + I shortcut or right-click on the Start button and select Settings to open the Settings app in Windows 11.
Once the Settings app opens, go to the System tab on the sidebar and click the Notifications option. This is where you can manage Windows 11 notifications.
Scroll down the “Notifications from apps and other senders” list and turn ON the Startup App Notification toggle.
That’s it. From now on, you will get a notification when there is a new app in the startup list. If you don’t want that app in the startup list, you can disable it in the Task Manager’s Startup Apps tab.
Important Notes and Caveats
- No notifications for Task Scheduler or Services apps: You will not get startup notifications for apps that use Task Scheduler or Services to launch at startup.
- Time delay in notifications: You will not see the startup notification immediately when an app adds itself to the startup list. There is a slight delay when Windows 11 shows these notifications. However, you will see the notification eventually.
- Notification priority: By default, the priority of startup notifications is set to “Normal.” This means you will see these notifications even when Do Not Disturb mode is turned on. If you don’t want to miss a notification, you can change the notification priority to “Top.” To do this, open Settings (press Windows key + I), go to System > Notifications, click on Startup App Notification, and select Top under the “Priority of notification in notification center” section.
Wrapping Up — Getting Notified Of New Startup Apps in Windows 11
As you can see, it is pretty simple to enable the Startup App Notification in Windows 11. Once enabled, you will see a notification (with notification sound) whenever there is a new startup app. Do keep in mind the caveats I listed above: you will not see notifications for apps that use the Task Scheduler or Services to start and there is a time delay in notifications.
