How To Enable Right-Click Menu in Windows Terminal

Learn how to enable the right-click context menu in Windows Terminal to make it easy to find, copy, paste, do a web search of selected text, and more.

By default (as of writing this), the right-click menu is disabled in Windows Terminal. That means, when you right-click in Windows Terminal, nothing happens. While the right-click menu is not necessary, it makes tasks easier, especially for those who don’t like using obscure gestures or keyboard shortcuts. For example, without the right-click menu, you want to select the text you want to copy and press “Ctrl + C”. With the right-click menu, you can simply select the text, right-click, and click the “Copy” icon. You don’t have to lift your hand from your mouse.

In this quick and easy guide, let me show you the steps to enable the right-click menu in Windows Terminal on Windows 11. Let’s get started.

Enable Right-Click Menu in Windows Terminal

  1. Press “Windows key + R” to open the Run dialog.
  2. Type “wt” and click “OK“.
  3. Click the down arrow icon on the title bar.
  4. Select the “Settings” option.
  5. Go to the “Defaults” tab on the sidebar.
  6. Click “Advanced“.
  7. Turn ON the “Display a menu on right-click” toggle.
  8. Click “Save“.
  9. From now on, right-clicking in Windows Terminal displays the right-click menu.
