How To Enable or Disable Windows Ready Print in Windows 11

Windows Ready Print makes installing printers that support Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) easy and automatic. Here’s how to enable or disable it.

With the recent update, Microsoft added support for Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) to install the printers via the Protected Printer Mode feature. The best thing is that with IPP, Windows 11 doesn’t have to depend on the manufacturer’s drivers or software to print documents. In fact, this eliminates the often-sighted bugs and vulnerabilities in those drivers. To make things easier for the user, Microsoft added a new option called Windows Ready Print, which, when enabled, will automatically install the printer with IPP by default. When it’s disabled, it tries to install drivers and software the traditional way.

In this quick and easy guide, I’ll show you how to enable or disable Windows Ready Print in Windows 11. Let’s get started.

Enable Windows Ready Print in Windows 11

  1. Press “Windows key + I” to launch the Settings app.
  2. Go to the “Bluetooth & devices” tab on the sidebar.
  3. Click the “Printers & scanners” option on the right page.
  4. Turn ON the “Default install printers using Windows Ready Print” toggle.
  5. Close the Settings app.
  6. Restart your computer.
  7. With that, Windows Ready Print is enabled.

From now on, whenever you connect a new printer to your computer, Windows 11 will, by default, try to install IPP to work with it. If the printer is not compatible with IPP, it will find another way, or you can install the drivers manually.

Disable Windows Ready Print in Windows 11

If you don’t want Windows 11 to automatically install printers using IPP (Internet Printing Protocol), by default, you must disable the Windows Ready Print feature. Thankfully, you can do it directly from the Settings app. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Settings app by pressing “Windows key + I”.
  2. Go to the “Bluetooth & devices” > “Printers & scanners” page.
  3. Turn OFF the “Default install printers using Windows Ready Print” toggle.
  4. Close the Settings app.
  5. Restart your computer.
  6. With that, Windows Ready Print is disabled.

Once the Windows Ready Print is disabled, Windows 11 will not use IPP to install printers and will look for other ways.

That is it. It is that simple. If you have any questions or need help, comment below. I’ll be happy to assist.
