How To Enable or Disable Single-Finger Scrolling in Windows 11

You can now vertically scroll with a single finger on the left & right sides of the touchpad. Here’s how to enable or disable single-finger scrolling on Windows 11.

Microsoft added new features to the touchpad (trackpad) in Windows 11. Generally, when you want to scroll vertically, the default gesture is two-finger scroll. i.e., place two fingers on your touchpad and move them up and down. While the default vertical scrolling gesture is pretty good, it can sometimes be hard to perform or even trigger the scroll action accidentally. Thankfully, with the recent updates, Microsoft added a new feature that lets you scroll vertically with a single finger on the left or right side of the touchpad. The best thing is that you can choose whether to enable or disable this feature, on which side to use the single-finger gesture to scroll, and, optionally, make it work alongside the two-finger scrolling gesture.

So, without further ado, let me show you how to enable or disable single-finger scrolling in Windows 11 and how to change which side you can scroll (left or right). Let’s get started.

Enable Single-Finger Scrolling in Windows 11

  1. Open Settings by pressing “Windows key + I“.
  2. Go to the “Bluetooth & devices” tab on the sidebar.
  3. Scroll down the right page and click on “Touchpad“.
  4. Click and expand the “Scroll & zoom” section.
  5. Select “Right side” or “Left side” from the “Single-finger scrolling” dropdown.
  6. With that, you’ve enabled single-finger scrolling and changed its side, all at once.

  2. Select the “Settings” option.
  3. Go to the “Bluetooth & devices” > “Touchpad” page in Settings.

  5. Ensure the “Drag two fingers to scrollcheckbox is selected.
  6. With that, you’ve disabled single-finger scrolling in Windows 11.

Even after disabling the single-finger scrolling, you can scroll using two fingers. i.e., place two fingers on your touchpad and move them up and down. Do keep in mind that this will only work if the “Drag two fingers to scroll” checkbox is selected.
