When you open an app in Windows, it either opens fully maximized or in windowed mode. Generally, the way it opens depends on whether the app or Windows remembers its last or preferred way. Put it simply, there is no consistent way you can open an app maximized every time. At least until now. With build 26340.9233 (v26H2) or higher, you can change the visual effect accessibility settings to make sure apps always open maximized.

Before You Start
- The option to open always maximized is only available in build 26340.9233 (v26H2) or higher. If you are using a lower build or v25H2, this option will not be available to you.
Enable or Disable ‘Open Apps Maximized’ Feature in Windows 11
First thing, launch the Settings app by pressing the “Windows key + I” keyboard shortcut. You can also click the “Settings” icon in the Quick Settings panel (press “Windows key + A” or click the “Network” icon on the taskbar).
Once the Settings app opens, in the left sidebar, go to the “Accessibility” tab. Next, click the “Visual effects” option on the right panel.
This action opens the visual effects-related accessibility settings. Here, find the “Open apps maximized” option and do the following:
- Turn ON the toggle: Apps will always open maximized.
- Turn OFF the toggle: Apps will not always open maximized. However, how they open depends on the specific app.
Your changes are saved automatically. You can close the Settings app, and no need for a system restart. Depending on your settings, apps will open maximized or not.
