How to Enable New Outlook UI (User Interface)

Outlook has been looking the same for the past several years. However, Microsoft recently updated Outlook’s user interface to be more modern and has a simplified design. The best thing is that it aligns with the design principles of Windows 11, featuring a clean look, minimalist icons, and easy navigation.

By default, the new UI is disabled in Outlook. However, you can easily enable the new Outlook UI with just a couple of clicks. In this tutorial, I will show you the steps to turn on the new user interface in Outlook. Let’s get started.

Before You Start

  • Before starting, make sure the Outlook app is up-to-date.

Enable New Outlook UI on Windows

  1. Press the Start button to open the Start menu.
  2. Search and open “Outlook“.
  3. Turn ON the “Try the new Outlook” toggle in the top-right corner.
  4. Wait for Outlook to download the required files.
  5. Click the “Switch” button.
  6. Once relaunched, click the “Continue” button.
  7. With that, you’ve enabled Outlook’s new UI.
  8. From now on, open “Outlook (new)” when opening the Outlook app.

Detailed Steps (With Screenshots)

First, open the Outlook app. You can do that by searching for “Outlook” in the Start menu.

Once it opens, turn ON the “Try the new Outlook” toggle in the top-right corner. If you don’t see this toggle, you need to update your Outlook app to the latest version.

With that, you’ve enabled the new Outlook UI.

From now on, whenever you are opening the Outlook app, search for “Outlook (new)” in the Start menu. If you open “Outlook (classic)”, it might open the Outlook app with the old UI.

Wrapping Up — Trying Out the New UI in the Outlook App

In conclusion, enabling the new UI in the Outlook app is as simple as turning on a toggle. Once you turn on the new UI, try it out and see how it works for you. In general, it’s easier to use and there are also new themes and colors in the Outlook app to make it look however you want. That being said, if you don’t like the new UI and want to switch back, simply turn OFF the “Try the new Outlook” toggle. However, keep in mind that the new UI will be the default one in the coming months and when that happens, Microsoft might remove the option to switch back to the old UI.
