Have you ever wanted to display key system information, like your computer name, IP address, MAC address, OS version, disk space, CPU and RAM usage, or system uptime, directly on your desktop? Usually, you’d have to dig through Task Manager, System Information, Settings, or other built-in apps to find these details.
With BgInfo, an official & free Microsoft tool, you can display all the important system information right on your desktop background. That way, the information you need is available at a glance. For instance, you can keep an eye on network activity or system resources without opening the Task Manager. If you’re in an office environment, you can use it to display crucial details like the hostname, IP address, current user info, system uptime, and more—making troubleshooting and system management much easier.
In this tutorial, let me show you how to use the BgInfo tool to display system information on your desktop background. Let’s get started.

Detailed Steps (With Screenshots)
First, download the BgInfo zip file from here.

Once done, find the downloaded file, right-click on it, and select the “Extract All” option.

In the extraction window, click the “Extract” button. This action extracts the zip file to a new folder with the same name as the zip file in the same directory.

Open the extracted folder and double-click the “bginfo64.exe” file.

Click the “Agree” button to continue.

As soon as you open the application, it adds all the system info to your desktop. If that’s what you want, simply click the “OK” button in the BgInfo window and you are done.

By default, the BgInfo tool displays a ton of information. Depending on your display size, the information might not even fit. The good thing is that you customize which info is displayed. To do that, you just have to remove the entries from the editor window on the left side.
To remove an entry, select the line or field (e.g., <IE Version>
or <Subnet Mask>
) and press the Delete key on your keyboard. You can also reorganize the fields by cutting and pasting them into your desired order. For example, I removed a lot of fields like the machine domain, logon domain, logon server, IE version, snapshot time, etc., that I don’t need.
Once done, click the “OK” button to save the change.

As soon as you do that, your desktop will be updated to display only the selected system info.

In the future, if you want to add additional fields, you can do so by selecting the field you want to add under the “Fields” section on the right side and clicking the “Add” button.
That is all. It is that simple to display the system info on your desktop background in Windows 11 or Windows 10.
