Have you noticed new pop-up messages in Chrome after its latest update? With the release of version 130, Google introduced toast notifications—small messages that pop up at the top of the Chrome window. These messages appear when you perform actions like copying a link, saving a password, or adding a page to your reading list. They remain visible for a few seconds before disappearing automatically. You cannot interact with the notification or dismiss it manually.
While the toast notifications are useful, they can be a distraction too. If you’d rather browse without interruptions, you can easily disable toast notifications in Chrome in just a couple of clicks. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to turn them off.
Before You Begin
- To enable or disable toast notifications in Chrome, you should be using version 130 or higher. To check your Chrome version, click the “Menu” (three vertical dots) icon on the top-right corner and select “Help” > “About Chrome”. You will see the version number under the “About Chrome” section.
- As of writing this tutorial, Chrome doesn’t have an option in its Settings to turn ON or OFF toast notifications. So, we will use the Chrome Flags to control toasts. As and when the Settings option is available, I will update the tutorial accordingly.
Steps to Disable Toast Notifications on Google Chrome
- Open the Chrome browser.
- Type “chrome://flags/#top-chrome-toasts” in the address bar.
- Press the “Enter” button.
- Select “Disabled” from the “Top Chrome Toasts” dropdown.
- Restart the Chrome browser.
- With that, the toast notifications are disabled in Chrome.
Detailed Steps (With Screenshots)
To start, open Chrome by searching for it in the Start menu or clicking the Chrome icon on the taskbar if it’s pinned.
In the Chrome window, type “chrome://flags/#top-chrome-toasts” in the address bar and press the “Enter” key on your keyboard. This action takes you directly to the flag that controls the toast notifications behavior.
Now, select the “Disabled” option from the “Top Chrome Toasts” dropdown menu. After that, close and re-open the Chrome browser.
With that, you’ve disabled the toast notifications on the Chrome browser.
