Learn how to disable or hide the Copilot’s “Chat” button in the Microsoft Edge toolbar in simple and easy steps.
Microsoft integrated many Copilot (AI) features into the Edge browser. One such feature is the “Chat” button in the toolbar at the top. Typically, it appears on the right-most side of the address bar. Clicking this button instantly launches the Copilot sidebar, where you can chat with the AI. While useful, if you don’t use this button to launch the Copilot sidebar, it’s just a distraction and wasted space. This is especially true on smaller screens or if you like to keep your browser minimal.

Thankfully, you can easily hide the “Chat” button in the toolbar. All you have to do is turn off a toggle, and you are good to go. Let me show you how to do it in simple steps. Let’s get started.
Disable “Chat” Button in Microsoft Edge
- Open the Edge browser.
- Click the “Menu” (…) icon in the top-right corner.
- Select “Settings“.
- Go to the “Appearance” tab.
- Click the “Copilot and sidebar” option.
- Click the “Copilot” option.
- Turn OFF the “Show Copilot button on the toolbar” toggle.
- With that, the Copilot “Chat” button is hidden/disabled in Edge.
Detailed Steps (With Screenshots)
If the Edge browser is not yet open, we must open it first. To do that, search for “Microsoft Edge” in the Start menu and click “Open“. Alternatively, click the “Edge” icon on the taskbar if it is pinned.
Once the Edge browser opens, click the “Menu” (…) icon on the top-right corner and select the “Settings” option. This opens the Settings tab, where you can customize the Edge browser.

Go to the “Appearance” tab on the sidebar. Next, scroll down to the “Other appearance settings” section on the right page and click the “Copilot and sidebar” option.

Since the button we want to hide is a Copilot button, click the “Copilot” option under the “App specific settings” section.

Now, turn off the “Show Copilot button on the toolbar” toggle to hide the Copilot button in Microsoft Edge.

That is all. It is that simple to hide the Chat button in Microsoft Edge. Even after hiding the button, you can still open the Copilot sidebar by pressing the “Windows key + Shift + .” (period) shortcut.
