How To Change Taskbar Position to Left, Right, or Top in Windows 11

You can change the taskbar position on the screen to left, right, top, or bottom in Windows 11. Learn how to set it up in simple steps.

One of the features Microsoft removed when it released Windows 11 is the ability to move the taskbar to the left, right, or top, instead of its default bottom position. The main reason Microsoft gave is that it is not used by a vast majority of people. However, if you are a power user, especially with a lot of screen real estate, the ability to move the taskbar from its default position to left, right, or top is pretty helpful. In fact, I even wrote a tutorial that shows how to move the taskbar to the top using Windhawk. Thankfully, you no longer have to use a third-party app. Microsoft added the option to move the taskbar position directly to the Settings app.

In this quick and easy guide, let me show you the steps to change the taskbar position to left, right, or top from its default position in Windows 11. Let’s get started.

Before You Start

  • This feature is still in testing, and you should use Windows 11 Insider build 26300.8493 or higher (Experimental).
  • Microsoft is rolling out this feature in waves. That means, it might not be available to you even if you are using the recommended build. In such cases, you have to use ViVetool to enable this feature. Below are the quick steps. For detailed steps, follow the ViVetool guide.
    1. Download ViVetool from here.
    2. Extract the ViVetool zip file.
    3. Right-click the Windows key on the taskbar and select “Terminal (Admin)”.
    4. Use cd c:\path\to\extracted\vivetool\folder command to navigate to the ViVetool folder.
    5. Run the vivetool.exe /enable /id:59213768 command.
    6. Restart your computer.
