Learn how to change the verbosity level when using Narrator’s Math Reading accessibility feature in Windows 11.
Narrator’s math reading feature is a much-needed and anticipated tool for STEM students and academics alike. When enabled, it automatically reads the on-screen math equations, fractions, exponents, and roots clearly. By default, the math reading verbosity level is set to medium so that it’s good enough for a vast majority of people. However, what if you want it to read math in a much more shorter and direct way (terse) or be as verbose as possible? Thankfully, just as you can change the math reading speech style, you can also change the math reading’s verbosity levels using the Settings app. That way, you can configure math reading style for your specific use case. In this quick and easy guide, I will show you how to do it in simple and easy steps. Let’s get started.
Before You Start
- You should be running Windows 11 build 26340.9354 (v26H2) or higher to follow the steps below.
Steps to Change Narrator Math Verbosity Level Using Windows 11
Just as with other math reading options, the first and foremost thing to do is launch the Settings app using the “Windows key + I” shortcut. Once it launches, select “Accessibility” on the left sidebar and then click the “Narrator” option to open the Narrator settings page.

Now, scroll down to the “Math” section and click the “Math reading” option. This action opens the options page for Math Reading.
On this page, find the “Verbosity level” dropdown menu and choose between “Terse“, “Medium” (default), and “Verbose“.
If you want math reading to be short and to the point, select “Terse“. If you want it to be as detailed as possible, select “Verbose“. For the best of both worlds, select “Medium” (this is the default option selected).
That’s it. With that, you’ve successfully changed the verbosity level of Narrator’s math reading. Write down any questions or comments you have below. I’ll respond quickly.
