Is the mouse pointer too slow or fast while moving? Here is how to change the mouse sensitivity to control mouse pointer speed.
The mouse is one of the most important input devices for a computer. Almost every Windows user depends on the mouse and its various functionality to get things done. By default, Windows tries to configure the mouse settings and its sensitivity based on many things. However, those settings are not correct for every user. You must configure the mouse settings for your use case. This is because everyone’s requirements and preferences are a bit different.
When configuring the mouse settings, one of the first things you should change is the mouse sensitivity. i.e., how fast the mouse pointer moves when you move the mouse physically. For example, some might prefer a fast mouse pointer while others prefer slow pointer movement for more refined control. If you increase the mouse sensitivity, the pointer moves faster, even with slight mouse movement. The reverse is true when you decrease the mouse sensitivity.
The good thing is that Windows makes it easy to change the mouse sensitivity, which changes the mouse pointer speed.
So, without delay, let me show you how to change the mouse sensitivity in Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Note: The steps given below will work in Windows 11 too.
Change mouse sensitivity in Settings app
You can change the mouse sensitivity from the Windows 10 Settings app itself using the Cursor Speed option. Here is how.
First, press the Windows 10 Settings app with the “Start key + I” keypress. You can also click the “All Settings” button in the Notification Center or Action Center.
In the Settings app, go to the “Devices > Mouse” page. This is where you will find some of the mouse settings. Here, use the slider under the “Cursor speed” heading. Moving to the right will increase the mouse sensitivity. If you move the slider to the left, the mouse sensitivity decreases.
After setting the mouse sensitivity, close the Settings app.
Change mouse sensitivity in Mouse Properties
You can change the mouse sensitivity using the Mouse Properties tool. Here is how to open Mouse Properties and change the setting.
To open Mouse Properties, we need to use the Control Panel. So, press the “Start key + R” shortcut, type “control,” and press Enter. You can also search for “Control Panel” in the Start menu.
Select “Large Icons” from the “View by” dropdown menu in the Control Panel window. Next, find and click on the “Mouse” option.
The above action will open the Mouse Properties window. In this window, go to the “Pointer Options” tab. Use the slider under the “Select a pointer speed” section to change the mouse sensitivity. Like with the Settings apps, moving the slider to the right will increase the sensitivity while moving it to the left will decrease it.
That is it. It is that simple to change the mouse sensitivity in Windows 10 and Windows 11.
I hope that helps.
