VLC supports several different languages for the user interface and menus. Here is how to change the language in VLC Player.
One of the best things about the VLC PLayer is that it can play almost any media format out there. Not only can it play, but it plays well too. Unlike many other media players, VLC doesn’t require you to install additional codecs in most cases. Of course, the next best thing about VLC is the number of options and the amount of customizability it offers to tailor the player however you need. One such option is the ability to change language in the VLC Player.
Like most applications, VLC natively supports several different languages. In fact, being a popular application with dedicated users worldwide, VLC supports almost all popular languages out there. Generally, VLC will default to your system language. For example, if your system language is English, VLC will default to English. However, when needed, you can easily change the VLC language with just a few clicks. This is especially useful if you want to use VLC in your native language or if the current VLC language is not rendering properly or grammatically incorrect.
No matter the reason, if you ever want to change the VLC Player language, follow the steps listed below. They will guide you to get the task in no time.
Steps to change language in VLC player
You can change the VLC language from the VLC Preferences page. Here is where to find the VLC language option and how to use it.
- Open the VLC media player.
- Click the “Tools > Preferences” option.
- Go to the “Interface” tab.
- Select the language of your choice from the “Menu language” dropdown.
- Click the “Save” button.
- Close and reopen the VLC player to start using the new interface language.
As always, the first thing you need to do is open the VLC media player. To do that, you can either search for “VLC media player” in the Start menu or double-click on the desktop shortcut, if available. After opening the VLC player, select the “Tools > Preferences” option to open the VLC preferences window.
In the preferences window, go to the “Interface” tab. As you can tell from the name, you will find all the options related to the VLC interface in this tab. Here, select the language of your choice from the “Menu Language” dropdown menu. I chose Japanese as my interface language. After that, click the “Save” button to save the changes.
Finally, close the player and re-open it to apply the changes. After opening the VLC player, you will see the new interface language. As you can see, since I chose Japanese, my VLC UI language is Japanese.
That is all. It is that simple to change language in VLC. To reset the VLC language, select “Auto” from the Menu Language dropdown menu. This will make VLC use the default system language.
I hope that helps.
