Microsoft 365 subscription renews automatically every month or year until you cancel it manually. If you no longer need a Microsoft 365 subscription, it’s best to cancel it as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary billing and losing money. There are several reasons why you might want to cancel the Microsoft 365 subscription. For example, your organization might have provided one, the promotional or trial period could be ending, or you might not be using it enough to justify the cost.
Whatever the reason, you can easily unsubscribe from Microsoft 365 with just a few clicks. In this tutorial, I will guide you step-by-step on how to cancel your subscription. Let’s get started.
Before You Begin
- Before canceling, backup all the data in your MS account, including OneDrive.
- Once you cancel the subscription, you are automatically reverted to the free plan.
- You need to cancel your subscription within 30 days after being charged to be eligible for a refund. For a refund, you have to contact Microsoft.
- Once unsubscribed, you may use the service until the end of the current subscription period.
Steps to Cancel Microsoft 365 Subscription
First, open the web browser of your choice using the Start menu. I’m using Google Chrome.
Next, click here to open the Microsoft account page. If you are not logged in, you will be prompted to do so. Enter your Microsoft email address and password to sign in.
After signing in, go to the Services & Subscriptions tab on the sidebar. You can also get to this page using this URL: https://account.microsoft.com/services

On this page, find the Microsoft 365 subscription entry and click the Manage option next to it.

On the Manage Subscription page, click on the Cancel Subscription option.
Important note: Both the “Turn off recurring billing” and “Cancel Subscription” options do the same thing.

Now, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the “I don’t want my subscription” button.

As soon as you do that, your Microsoft 365 subscription is canceled and it will not be auto-renewed. However, you will have access to Microsoft 365 until the end of the current subscription period. You will also receive an email from Microsoft informing of you the same.
