How To Automatically Open a Specific Site in a Specific Profile in Microsoft Edge

Learn the simplest way to configure Microsoft Edge to open specific websites in specific profiles automatically.

By default, any link you click in an external application will open in the last used or default profile. On the other hand, if you type a URL in the address bar and press “Enter”, it opens in the current profile. But what if you want to always open a specific site in a specific Edge profile? For example, maybe you want to open websites related to your work always in the work profile and personal sites in the personal profile.

Thankfully, you can configure Microsoft Edge by creating a custom site switch to automatically open specific sites in specific profiles. In this quick and easy guide, I will show you how to do it in simple steps. Let’s get started.

Automatically Open a Specific Site in a Specific Profile in Microsoft Edge

To make Edge automatically open sites in the correct profiles, you need to create a custom site switch for each website. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Launch the Start menu by pressing the “Windows key”.
  2. Search for “Microsoft Edge” and click “Open“.
  3. Click the “Menu” icon (three horizontal dots).
  4. Select the “Settings” option.
  5. Go to the “Profiles” tab on the sidebar.
  6. Click the “Profile preferences” option.
  7. Click the “Add site” button next to “Custom site switch”.
  8. Enter the URL in the “Website” field.
  9. Select “Switch” from the “Action” dropdown menu.
  10. Select the profile from the “Profile name” field.
  11. Click “Add“.
  12. From now on, that specific site will open in the selected profile.
