Learn how to remove the “Microsoft Print to PDF” feature from Windows 11 & 10 or add it when needed in simple steps.
By default, both Windows 11 and Windows 10 include a virtual printer called “Microsoft Print to PDF”. Whenever you try to print a document, you will see the “Microsoft Print to PDF” option in the Printers menu. Selecting this option saves the document as a PDF file instead of printing to physical paper. Often, this option is used to save files as PDF.

If you don’t want this option to appear when printing, want to use some other PDF Printer, or think it is causing problems, you can easily remove the Microsoft Print to PDF option. The best thing is, removing this option doesn’t impact any already installed printers.
Once removed, if you ever want this option back, you can easily enable it with just a couple of clicks. Let me show you how.
Remove the Microsoft Print to PDF Option
- Press the “Windows” key to open the Start menu.
- Search for “Turn Windows features on or off“.
- Click the “Open” option.
- Scroll down and uncheck the “Microsoft Print to PDF” checkbox.
- Click “OK“.
- Restart your PC.
- After restarting, the Microsoft Print to PDF option is removed.
Note: This action also removes the virtual printer from the “Printers” page in Settings (Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners).

Add & Show Microsoft Print to PDF Option

I have followed the steps to turn off the Windows feature “Print to PDF”
Unfortunately, it did not work.
When I press “Ctrl P” it still says “preparing your PDF to Print’
I have to press “Ctrl P” about 6 times before it prints the document
